Acoustic Materials for Industrial and Technical Applications

The Right Material Solution for Different Noise and Vibration Problems

Unwanted noise can be caused by vibrating sheet-metal components, the transmission of structure-borne sound or reflected airborne sound. Different acoustic materials are therefore required depending on the component, construction and intended application.

OTO Akustiktechnik supplies sound-damping sandwich sheets, damping layers, anti-drumming materials and sound absorbers for industrial and technical applications.

Our principal product is OTO-Akustikblech. In addition, we supply and process products from our long-standing partner Antiphon AB as well as other proven acoustic materials.

OTO-Akustikblech – Structure-Borne Sound Damping Directly within the Component

OTO-Akustikblech is a sound-damping sandwich sheet for structures in which conventional sheet metal is susceptible to vibration, resonance or panel drumming.

A damping layer is located between two metal face sheets. During bending vibration, part of the vibration energy is dissipated within this intermediate layer. As a result, the component stops vibrating more quickly and radiates less unwanted sound.

Typical applications include machine guards, enclosures, chutes, hoppers, conveying systems, ventilation components, power units and components for road and rail vehicles.

Additional Products for Structure-Borne Sound Damping and Anti-Drumming Applications

LDL and PDP Damping Layers

LDL and PDP are used as damping interlayers in multilayer structures.

LDL is suitable for composite structures made from metal, wood and panel materials. PDP can, for example, be laminated into GRP structures or bonded and pressed between suitable wood-based panels.

Typical applications include machine guards, floors, stairs, loading ramps, vehicle structures, GRP components and high-quality furniture or audio constructions.

Bitumen-Based Damping Sheets

Bitumen-based damping sheets increase the surface mass of thin-walled components and can therefore improve their vibration and drumming behaviour.

They are used on machine and equipment housings, sheet-metal panels, domestic appliances, vehicle components, partition walls and other technical structures.

Depending on the required configuration, we supply sheet material as well as custom-cut and die-cut parts.

LD 13 and LD 17 Damping Pads

The self-adhesive antiphon® LD 13 and LD 17 damping pads are applied directly to vibration-prone components made from sheet metal, plastic or suitable wood-based materials.

Typical applications include machine guards, conveying systems, ventilation and air-conditioning components, lift cabins, industrial doors, facade elements and technical equipment.

Sound Absorbers and Acoustic Foams

Sound absorbers reduce reflected airborne sound inside machines, housings, enclosures and noise-control cabins.

Our range includes broadband absorbers, technical foams and polyester wadding for applications in mechanical engineering, air-conditioning and ventilation systems, vehicle manufacturing, technical equipment and loudspeaker enclosures.

Custom-Cut and Die-Cut Parts

Many of our materials can be processed according to drawings, samples or specified dimensions.

We manufacture custom-cut and die-cut parts from materials including bitumen-based damping sheets, damping pads, PE and PUR foams, EPDM, EVA and polyester wadding.

Depending on the requirements, we can supply prototypes, small batches and larger production quantities.

Which Solution Is Suitable for Your Application?

Vibrating or Drumming Sheet Metal

Depending on the construction, suitable solutions may include OTO-Akustikblech, antiphon® MPM™, a bitumen-based damping sheet or a self-adhesive damping pad.

Multilayer Metal or Wood-Based Construction

Damping layers such as LDL or PDP may be suitable for creating an individually designed sandwich structure.

Reflected Airborne Sound inside an Enclosure

Sound absorbers, broadband absorbers or technical foams can be used for this type of application.

Custom Geometry or Ready-to-Install Component

Many materials can be manufactured as custom-cut or die-cut parts in accordance with customer specifications.

The most suitable solution depends on factors including the component material, material thickness, construction, frequency range and environmental conditions.

Where possible, send us a brief description, drawing or photograph of your application. Information about the dimensions, material thickness and required quantity will also help us provide an initial assessment.
